This new course offering combines the Basic Life Support course with the Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy add-ons.
We are operating with smaller-than-normal class sizes and will be maintaining physcial distance where possible. With first aid classes, this will not always be possible as we will need to practice and evaluate some hands-on skills. If you are not comfortable with this please consider signing up with a partner from your bubble, or not registering for this course. Facemasks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be available in all our classrooms.

Victoria (A-920 Johnson Street) Basic Life Support for Nurses Course Schedule
Basic Life Support (BLS) is the recognition of and initial intervention or treatment given by pre-hospital or in-facility responders to, a patient suffering from cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. The BLS curriculum truly supports the delivery of high performance, team-based professional-level resuscitation. Our BLS course is industry driven, designed as a robust resuscitation training program geared toward high-quality CPR in a team environment, and recognizes the nuances of multidisciplinary teams with varied experiences.
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills required to provide the appropriate interventions, including measuring and inserting the applicable airway adjunct based on the patient’s condition.
Participants will learn how to properly and safely handle and assemble the equipment, and how to correctly deliver supplemental oxygen through the appropriate delivery device.
This program does not cover basic CPR training - it is designed to train professionals to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies for adults, children and infants.

Canadian Red Cross certificates are now virtual! You will receive a temporary certificate at the end of your course, and your permanent certificate (valid for 1 year) will be emailed to you after the course has taken place.
If you have a current certificate, you are eligible to take the shorter recertification course. You will need to show proof of current certification to your instructor in order to be certified.
The pre-requisites for the Heart & Stroke Foundation PALS & ACLS courses include a Heart & Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support course.
This Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support does not meet these requirements, however, with a Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support certification, you will be able to take the online BLS Prerequisite Challenge. Your ACLS/PALS Instructor can then run a BLS renewal in conjunction with an ACLS/PAS course.
The official Canadian Red Cross First Aid app puts lifesaving advice in your hands. Available for Apple and Android mobile devices, the app helps you maintain your first aid skills and respond to everyday emergencies. By downloading the app on your smartphone or tablet, you get instant access to videos (like the one below), interactive quizzes and simple step-by-step advice to help you maintain your life-saving skills and respond when needed.
