Basic Life Support (BLS) is the recognition of and initial intervention or treatment given by pre-hospital or in-facility responders to, a patient suffering from cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest. The BLS curriculum truly supports the delivery of high performance, team-based professional-level resuscitation. Our BLS course is industry driven, designed as a robust resuscitation training program geared toward high-quality CPR in a team environment, and recognizes the nuances of multidisciplinary teams with varied experiences.
The Airway Management add-on is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to create a patent airway, the interventions to maintain it, and the equipment available to carry out these skills.
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills required to provide the appropriate interventions, including measuring and inserting the applicable airway adjunct based on the patient’s condition.
The Oxygen Therapy add-on is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to correctly identify when it is necessary to administer supplemental oxygen.
Participants will learn how to properly and safely handle and assemble the equipment, and how to correctly deliver supplemental oxygen through the appropriate delivery device.
This program does not cover basic CPR training - it is designed to train professionals to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies for adults, children and infants.

Basic Life Support Certification
A virtual manual is included. Hard copy manuals are available for an additional $10.00.
Basic Life Support Certification
Canadian Red Cross certificates are now virtual! You will receive a temporary certificate at the end of your course, and your permanent certificate (valid for 1 year) will be emailed to you after the course has taken place.
Basic Life Support Recertification
If you have a current certificate, you are eligible to take the shorter recertification course. You will need to show proof of current certification to your instructor in order to be certified.
Heart & Stroke Foundation PALS & ACLS
The pre-requisites for the Heart & Stroke Foundation PALS & ACLS courses include a Heart & Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support course.
This Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support does not meet these requirements, however, with a Canadian Red Cross Basic Life Support certification, you will be able to take the online BLS Prerequisite Challenge. Your ACLS/PALS Instructor can then run a BLS renewal in conjunction with an ACLS/PAS course.
Canadian Red Cross First Aid App
The official Canadian Red Cross First Aid app puts lifesaving advice in your hands. Available for Apple and Android mobile devices, the app helps you maintain your first aid skills and respond to everyday emergencies. By downloading the app on your smartphone or tablet, you get instant access to videos (like the one below), interactive quizzes and simple step-by-step advice to help you maintain your life-saving skills and respond when needed. It is even fully integrated with 911, so you can call EMS from the app at any time.
