A comprehensive first aid and CPR skills training course for those in the marine/fishing industry.

This comprehensive Canadian Red Cross Marine Advanced First Aid course teaches first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need a higher level of training in the marine/fishing industry. This course trains participants how to react and improvise in a marine setting and is specifically designed for any person who wants to obtain a Master's or Officer's certificate or endorsement, or those providing first-aid on board a vessel engaged on a coastal voyage, class 1, or unlimited voyage. Participants spend the majoriey of the course doing hands-on first aid and participating in first-aid scenarios.

 

This course meets the requirements of Transport Canada outlined in Transport Publication (TP) 13008.

 

There are no prerequisites for this course, however previous first aid courses and anatomy knowledge will help with your success, as will reading and studying at home outside of course hours. Participants must successfully demonstrate skills, practical scenarios, attend and participate in 100% of the course, and achieve a minimum of 75% on the written, closed book knowledge evaluation.

How long is Marine advanced first aid good for?

Marine Advanced First Aid is valid for 3 years from the date of certification.

What is covered in advanced first aid?

There are several different types of more advanced first aid courses aimed at teaching people first aid beyond a regular ‘layrescuer’ skills. What is covered will depend on the specific course, but for advanced courses such as OFA Level 2, OFA Level 3, First Responder and Marine Advanced First Aid courses you will learn more detailed primary assessments and treatments, more detailed tracking of a person’s condition over time. You may also learn about patient and packaging and transportation. Another important part of more advanced courses will be much more time to practice and become proficient in your basic skills, and much more rigorous practical testing in order to successfully pass the course and become certified.

Certification

Canadian Red Cross certificates are now virtual! You will receive a temporary certificate at the end of your course, and a permanent virtual certificate will be emailed to you after you've successfully completed the course. You will receive both a Red Cross certification in Marine Advanced First Aid and a Transport Canada certification. You will be able to view your manual and certification online at any time through your MyRedCross account. Certification is valid for 3 years.
