Victoria-uvic Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (Blended)

Victoria-uvic Standard First Aid and CPR Level C (Blended)

A hands-on, comprehensive Red Cross first aid course that covers common home and workplace emergencies through online and in-person delivery.

Our Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Blended course is a fun and comprehensive first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course that combines self-paced, online instruction will a face-to-face, in-person skills session led by one of our first-class instructors. This first aid course covers everything from life-threatening emergencies to minor bumps and scrapes and is recognized by WorkSafeBC as equivalent to the Occupational First Aid Level 1 course.

We strongly believe that first aid is a physical skill, and the majority of the course will be spent doing hands-on first-aid and participating in realistic first aid scenarios, developing confidence and muscle memory. At the end of this course, participants should feel sure of the their own skills and be ready to react and take charge in emergency situations.

The online module of this course must be completed before you come in for the in-person portion, and will take up to 8 hours to complete. You can start and stop as many times as you need while you work through it, and take it up to 3 months ahead of your in-person course.

FAQ

What is the difference between Standard First Aid and Emergency First Aid?

The quickest answer is an Emergency First Aid teaches everything you need to know to save a life from life threatening conditions that can cause death in 7 to 10 minutes. (Airway Breathing, Circulation or Deadly Bleeds) or how to keep a person alive until the ambulance arrives. Standard First Aid will teach that information plus teach how to deal with life  threatening conditions plus teach how to deal with other medical conditions such a heat and cold related injures, poisions, burns.

FAQs

Does CPR C include first aid?

While the answer to this can be a bit complicated, the short answer is no. CPR Certification is sometimes the only requirement for specific employers - usually in professions such as healthcare, or for professional responders - since first aid skills are already ‘built into the job’ in some other way. Because of this we do offer stand-alone CPR C courses on a regular basis. That being said, while you CAN take a CPR course without taking first aid, you can NOT take a first-aid course that has no CPR component. CPR is an integral part of any First Aid course, and CPR topics will be touched on throughout the in-class portion of your first aid class. Any first aid course that you take with Alert First Aid will include CPR certification along with it. In summary: If you need First Aid and CPR certification, you only have to sign up for a first aid course - your CPR certification will be included. If you ONLY need CPR certification without any requirement for first-aid then you can sign up for a standalone CPR course.

Are online CPR and first aid classes legitimate?

While there can be benefits to learning about CPR online, if you require CPR certification for your job then at least a portion of your CPR class will need to be done in a live classroom setting. We do offer ‘blended’ CPR courses which are partially done online to reduce your classroom time, but we cannot issue legitimate certificates without including a classroom portion where the skill can be practiced and evaluated by a certified instructor.

Can first aid be done online?

If you need first aid certification for work, you can only do PART of the course online. We offer Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, and standalone CPR C courses in a ‘blended’ format where you are able to complete the ‘knowledge lessons’ online. This cuts the amount of time in the classroom for these courses fully in half, but it isn’t permitted to issue first aid certification unless half of your course time is spent in the classroom where an instructor can guide you through the practical skills and evaluate that you can perform them well enough to be certified.
