Victoria - Downtown Marine Advanced First Aid
A comprehensive first aid and CPR skills training course for those in the Victoria marine/fishing industry.
Train for your Master's or Officer's certificate with 40-hour Marine Advanced First Aid in downtown Victoria. This Canadian Red Cross course meets Transport Canada TP 13008 for first aid on coastal, class 1, and unlimited voyages. Train at our downtown centre on Johnson Street, close to James Bay, Fernwood, Oak Bay, and Esquimalt, and leave with 3-year Red Cross and Transport Canada certificates.
What students should expect
Who needs it? Mariners working toward a Master's or Officer's certificate or endorsement, and crew providing first aid on board.
Most of the course is hands-on skills and scenarios, from assessment and airway care to spinal injuries and multiple casualties. There are no prerequisites, but home study helps.
Exams & certificates
To pass, attend 100% of the course, demonstrate your skills and scenarios, and score at least 75% on a closed-book written exam.
You'll receive a Red Cross Marine Advanced First Aid certificate and a Transport Canada certificate, both valid for 3 years.

How long is Marine advanced first aid good for?
Marine Advanced First Aid is valid for 3 years from the date of certification.
What is covered in advanced first aid?
There are several different types of more advanced first aid courses aimed at teaching people first aid beyond a regular ‘layrescuer’ skills. What is covered will depend on the specific course, but for advanced courses such as OFA Level 2, OFA Level 3, First Responder and Marine Advanced First Aid courses you will learn more detailed primary assessments and treatments, more detailed tracking of a person’s condition over time. You may also learn about patient and packaging and transportation. Another important part of more advanced courses will be much more time to practice and become proficient in your basic skills, and much more rigorous practical testing in order to successfully pass the course and become certified.
