Successful participants in this course will become proficient with a comprehensive patient assessment model, and with critical interventions such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemorrhage control. Participants will also learn to identify and care for a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions, as well as package and transport patients to hospital. Participants will be engaged in dynamic learning environment that will be focused primarily on hands-on practice. Students will participate in skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions, performing in simulated scenarios based on real-life situations, as well as both written and practical testing.

In order to be successfully certified, participants must successfully perform skills, complete practical scenarios, attend and participate in 100% of the course, and achieve a minimum of 75% on the closed-book written knowledge evaluation.

This is a Canadian Red Cross EMR course. Successful completion will result in certification as a CRC Emergency Medical Responder.

Prerequisites:

Before beginning this course you must be currently certified in Occupational First Aid Level 3. Your certificate must not be expired when you start the course.

In order to be successful in this course, you should still have pretty much all of your OFA 3 skills intact. When you register for the course, you'll receive a list of expected skills to review, along with about 20 hours of pre-course work that is very important to make sure you're successful in the in-class portion of the course.

About EMA Licensing:

This certification qualifies to meet the prerequisite to apply to become a Licensed Emergency Medical Responder in British Columbia, however becoming licensed is a separate process which must be completed through the EMALB (Emergency Medical Assistants Licensing Board).  This will require a separate application, an additional online written exam and a separate practical evaluation.  If you wish to become a licensed EMR, this program is designed to prepare and support you through the EMALB Licensing process. You can learn more about the EMA Licensing process here.
