Instructor Training Pathway
The pathway to becoming a certified Instructor to teach Professional Responder courses is as follows:
1. Evaluate Skills and Check Prerequisites
To take this course, you must be 18 years or older, and have a valid participant certificate for the program you wish to teach (Basic Life Support, First Responder or Emergency Medical Responder).
Prior to the course, you must arrange for your skills to be evaluated. This does not have to be done through Alert First Aid, but must be done with a Teaching Experience Supervisor or Instructor Trainer.
To book your Skills Evaluation through us, please contact us at 250-595-5323 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional fees will apply.
2. Fundamentals of Instruction
Current Canadian Red Cross Instructors in other discplines are exempt from this step as they would have already completed it.
3. Discipline-Specific Classroom Component
This course will focus on the specific skills in the Professional Responder program.
If you are currently a Professional Responder Instructor and want to upgrade your certification (BLSI to FRI, BLSI to EMRI, FRI to EMRI), you are exempt from this step.
4. Teaching Experience
If this is your first instructor certification in the Professional Responder Discipline, you will need to successfully complete a Teaching Experience in the course you wish to teach (Basic Life Support, First Responder or Emergency Medical Responder). This does not have to be done through Alert First Aid, but must be done with a Teaching Experience Supervisor or Instructor Trainer.
To book your Teaching Experience through us, please speak to your instructor, or contact us at 250-595-5323 or email@example.com. Additional fees will apply.
An electronic certification will be issued upon completion. Certification will correspond to your completion of the pathway components in accordance with the course you wish to teach. Potential Professional Responder Instructor certifications include:
Basic Life Support Instructor (certified to teach BLS, AM and OT)
First Responder Instructor (certified to teach BLS, AM, OT, MAFA and FR)
Emergency Medical Responder Instructor (certified to teach BLS, AM, OT, MAFA, FR, EMR and AFA)
