Step 3: Wilderness First Aid Discipline Specific

The full Instructor Development process is broken down into five steps:

  • Step 1: Skills Assessment
  • Step 2: Fundamentals of Instruction
  • Step 3: Discipline specific classroom component (First Aid & CPR, Wilderness and Remote First Aid or Professional Responder)
  • Step 4: Teaching Experience
  • Step 5: Certification

This segment of instructor development will focus on applying your skills as an Instructor within the Wilderness and Remote First Aid discipline. It includes exploring and understanding the learners (participants) you will be supporting, and familiarizing yourself with the course content and teaching tools. This step focuses largely on application and will include the opportunity to complete microteaching segments with your peers. This segment of the course involves pre-course work.

  • Current participant level certification in either Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid or Red Cross Advanced Wilderness and Remote First Aid

Full Course Length: 14.5 Hours
