A one-day specialized first aid course for childcare workers to learn to respond to common childhood emergencies.
Our Canadian Red Cross Emergency Child Care First Aid & CPR Level B course is a fun, basic one-day course designed especially for those working as caregivers. The first aid skills taught are similar to our other basic courses, but our amazing instructors will teach them through realistic child care scenarios and spend extra time on common childhood injuries as well as how to prevent injuries from happening in the first place. This course meets BC's Child Care Licensing requirements.
First aid is a physical skill, and we strongly believe that you'll remember more of your course years down the road if you're enjoying yourself and paying attention. Our full-time instructors care about teaching first aid, and have fun doing it. We're sure you'll enjoy yourself too. At the end of this course, you'll feel confident in your skills and prepared to take on any injuries childhood can come up with.

Child Care First Aid is exactly what it sounds like – a comprehensive course that equips you to provide essential first aid for children within the community. While 'Emergency First Aid' or 'Standard First Aid' combined with CPR C offer a broader approach to first aid, they often meet the needs of most individuals in childcare roles. However, if you're employed in a licensed childcare environment, your employer might prefer your certification to specifically include 'Emergency Childcare First Aid'. Though many first aid principles are universal, Child Care first aid courses introduce a few additional topics. These courses place a stronger emphasis on managing common childhood injuries and also touch upon the legal responsibilities that accompany caring for others' children.
Emergency First Aid is a basic 1 day course that focuses on life saving skills and knowledge. It is the minimum requirement for many jobs, but some employers may require the 2 day Standard First Aid certification instead. Worksafe BC recognizes Red Cross Emergency First Aid certificate as equivalent to OFA Level 1. Topics covered include: Scene Assessment, Primary Assessment, Clearing an Obstructed Airway, CPR with AED, Breathing and Circulation Emergencies, Controlling Severe Bleeds, Basic Minor Wound Management.
There are no requirements if you are babysitting a single sibling group or up to 2 children at a time. That being said, many parents would prefer or even require their babysitters to have first aid certification. We think it is very important that anybody who is babysitting children be trained in first aid so that they will know what to do in case there is an emergency even if it isn’t required by law!
Yes, the Emergency First Aid courses that we teach will always touch on how skills might be different when applied to children and give specific instructions for child CPR. If you sign up for Emergency First Aid with CPR C the course will also include CPR and choking procedures for babies. While most first aid topics apply similarly across all age groups, if you are looking for a course with a bit more focus on children then you might prefer to sign up for one of our Emergency Childcare First Aid Courses instead of Emergency First Aid.
